Effects of Plant Growth Regulators on the Change of Petal colors in Cut Flowers of Rosa hydbrida L . cv . Red Sandra

Abstract
This experiment was carried out to know the response of petal colors in the treatment of four kinds of growth regulators of cut rose flowers (cv. Red Sandra). The results are summarized as follows:
1. Among four growth regulators, addition of ethylene in distilled water gave a significant effect on flavonol formation whereas the treatments of the benzyladenine and indole acetic acid in distilled water, and indole acetic acid in the preservative solution including 4% sucrose and 200 §·/§¤ 8-hydroxyquinoline sulfate, greatly decreased its formation.
2. The optical densities of anthocyanin tended toward similarity within the preservative solution added the growth regulators except ethephon. They ranged from 0.8 to 1.0. The treatment of IAA and GA added in distilled water showed a similar tendency.
3. The best ornamental values were shown in the ratios of flavonol to anthocyanin ranging from 2.6 to 3.7. The IAA, GA and BA in the preservative solutions including 4% sucrose and 200§·/§¤ 8-HQS were in those ranges. Addition of BA in distilled water showed a similar tendency.
4. All preservative solutions with or without growth regulators except ethephon, indicated high color values in Hunter L, a, b system. But there were no significant differences among them at 5% level.
The treatments of IAA in distilled water, and IAA, GA and BA adding A%r sucorse and 200 §·/§¤ 8-HQS kept high redness during the flowering period.
5. Hunter ¢¥b¢¥ value which means yellowish level was gradually lowered by ethephon treatment in the preservative solution, and IAA, GA, and ethephon in distilled water as well. However, BA in the preservative solution showed gradual increase. All treatments of ethephon lowered values ¢¥b¢¥ due to the development of severe senescense.
